In light of what had just been realized, the African American History site appeared to be very much looked into and educated for this task. Not at all like a considerable lot of different sites that I went to, this one really gave me a significant part of the data I figure it is essential to know as far as the Civil Rights Movement just as the documentation to back it up. Personal Religious Experience free essay sample

Experience Ive been going to chapel for whatever length of time that I can recollect. The most punctual time I went to chapel was the point at which I was in pre-school, and I went to a similar church until secondary school. Sundays were normal, we went to chapel, went out to eat after with different individuals from the congregation, and afterward returned home to observe either football or baseball (sports being my subsequent religion). Skipping church was never a choice, nor did I truly need to miss it. I had old buddies at chapel, and was really inspired by the holy book and the narratives we read. My folks have been ardent Christians since a couple of years before I was conceived. Both had been Catholic as kids, and both quit going for various reasons. After my grandmother kicked the bucket when my father was 17, he began addressing how that could occur if there was a God. My mother consistently accepted there was a God, yet she didnt concur with how the Catholic church was run and was searching for a change. We will compose a custom article test on Individual Religious Experience or on the other hand any comparable subject explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page While my father went into the Navy, my mother began going to various holy places. At the point when my father returned, he went to a Christian church with my mother; they met with a minister, and became Christians. At the point when I was growing up, my folks chose to not get link, which implied I invested a great deal of energy perusing. Id regularly read book of scriptures themed stories, or once in a while read a children adaptation of the holy book. I found the narratives to really be engaging, and I delighted in understanding them. My folks additionally enlisted me in a preceding school day care at a close by chapel, where I read progressively book of scriptures stories, retained sacred texts, and met other Christian children. My congregation life was at its top, since I was appreciating church, my Sunday schedule, and had companions at my congregation. We moved from Maine to New Hampshire, and still went to a similar church. At that point, my folks concluded it was too far to even think about driving to consistently, and we found another congregation that was nearer. This congregation was littler, less individuals, and not as quite a bit of a family as the former one might have been. There were just two children my age, and I didnt truly have a closest companion as I did at my past chapel. I started to disdain Sundays, requesting to skip it to an ever increasing extent, and even the book of scriptures stories lost their enchantment. The couple of years I spent at that congregation appeared to be vacant, practically like I was simply making a halfhearted effort and not increasing any otherworldly information. This prompted perhaps the greatest change in my life up until now. I moved to Florida before my lesser year in secondary school. We gave a couple of holy places a shot, and chose one directly not far off from our home. They had extraordinary music, an enthusiastic youth minister, and I made a couple of old buddies right away. It wasnt as incredible of a congregation as my initial one had been, yet it still re-touched off the energy I had for chapel previously. I started going to youth bunch all the more much of the time, went out with my companions from chapel, and started perusing the book of scriptures with greater normality. Despite the fact that I was at long last content with my congregation once more, my way of life had changed. I went to parties during the ends of the week, had more schoolwork during the week, and had soccer consistently. This made it harder to discover time for chapel related exercises, and the vast majority of my closest companions didnt go to my congregation or any congregation whatsoever. I was nearer to God then I had been, yet not at the strict point I had been at when I was more youthful. Indeed, even now, at school, I dont go to chapel on Sundays, and dont regularly read the holy book. I have confidence in God, and attempt to live in a way which commends God, however I still dont thoroughly commit myself completely to my confidence. When I’m at home for excursions or breaks, it’s elusive time to visit my congregation. I’m constantly out late, and with chapel being so promptly toward the beginning of the day, its difficult to propel myself to go to chapel. During the school year, I don’t have any companions who go to chapel, and I don’t know where the closest church is. I frequently go through the ends of the week unwinding from an extreme seven day stretch of homework, so I’m out until four toward the beginning of the day, and regularly in no condition to get up at an opportune time a Sunday morning. I want to snooze, watch football, and do schoolwork. I trust Im entering the hardest years to be given to your religion, with such huge numbers of interruptions. On the off chance that I can follow my religion and God through the remainder of my school years, I think Ill be living for God for a mind-blowing remainder. I’m not certain if I’ll go to chapel week by week, or cause my children to go to chapel, however I’ll consistently have faith in God and attempt to carry on with a decent life.

He proceeds to express that Prospero â€Å"tak’st from me.† In request to recover or pick up his rulership, Caliban plots with Trinculo and Stephano to execute Prospero and assume control over the island. Motivation And The Motivation Of The Learning Process

As an important starting point, motivation is the prime motivation of the learning process. This is also true for research. Motivation is one of the most crucial factors leading to success. It is the motivation that keeps me in the field for the last ten years. Motivation is not the spur-of-the-moment curiosity at the beginning; it is more a fascination which lasts a long time. Learning is an instill-digest-absorb process requiring effort and more importantly persistence. Without motivation, the learning process is boring and sometimes painful. As a teacher, I wish the students in my class are motivated by passion instead of routine. Thus I motivate students by showing them varieties of engineering applications in different fields such as renewable energy, construction machines, automotive, aerospace, robotics and manufacturing. Instead of giving an inane introduction, I embed my research topics in the lectures so students can get an idea of how the technology is applied to the real world. I intend to soften the boundary between teaching and research so that students in my class realize they are not here for spoon-feeding but for solving a practical engineering problem. After students get motivated, it is time to show them the big picture of the course. That is, what they can achieve finally and the way to achieve it. This is an important step as students will know their objectives at the beginning and the strategy to achieve it. The Kite Runner By Khaled Hosseini - 1248 Words

The Kite Runner Before I read The Kite Runner, I had looked up a summary of it online as a preview for what was to come. That was not the best idea because after having read the summary, I began to make assumptions about the book. I had thought that it was going to be a very historically factual book about Afghanistan in the 1960s and 1970s when the Soviet Union invaded and the Taliban regime took over. I was expecting a plot line similar to Night by Elie Wiesel: a book about a boy and his father’s experiences during World War II in Nazi German concentration camps. As someone who is not a history enthusiast, I was then not very thrilled to read Khaled Hosseini’s book. However, I was incredibly surprised after reading it. There were certain parts that discussed different political events that occurred during that time, specifically with the Taliban. In addition, there were examples of traditional Afghani cultural events like the kite flying tournaments and the wedding cerem ony. Although Khaled Hosseini used historically accurate experiences from his life in Afghanistan as inspiration, he also created a character with his own childhood, friends, family, and story. The Kite Runner is Amir’s, the protagonist and narrator of the novel, retelling of childhood events in Kabul that â€Å"made [him] what [he is] today† (Hosseini 2) and his present journey to amend his mistakes from the past. Counter culture / Hackers Essay Example For Students

Counter culture / Hackers Essay Why Hackers Do The Things They Do?Hackers. You know them as gangly kids with radiation tans caused by too many late nights in front of a computer screen. Evil beings who have the power to wipe out your credit rating, cancel your cable TV, raise your insurance premiums, and raid your social security pension. Individuals who always avert their eyes and mumble under their breath about black helicopters and CIA transmissions. Paranoid, social deviants who could start World War III from the privacy of their bedrooms. Or so the mainstream media would have you believe. In reality, most hackers are ordinary people with a great deal of curiosity, above-average skills with a computer, a good understanding of human nature, and plenty of time to kill. Hackers have no distinguishing characteristics. Your next-door neighbor could be a hacker, as could your niece or nephew, one of your co-workers, or even the kid who serves you coffee in the morning. Not all hackers are dangerous and out to destroy business or damage lives. The view of the general public toward hackers is mixed. A recent CNN-poll shows 33% of respondents labeling hackers as useful, 17% seeing them as a menace, and the majority (45%) seeing hackers as both useful and a menace (CNN, 1999). Why do hackers go through all the trouble to do what they do? Most people in society do not spend the time to break into computer systems. It does not have much appeal to them. Why then do certain people spend so much of their time and energy accomplishing these feats of technological wizardry? What is the cause that turns those mostly above-average intelligent people to pursue a criminal career, and destroy their otherwise very successful careers? Why do they commit these computer related crimes as an obsession? There are probably as many answers to that question as there are hackers (maybe more). It is important to realize that these people are individuals with their own hopes, fears, desires, and everything else that comes with being human. However, there are general patterns to the motivation behind the computer hackers drive to manipulate technology. The problem of hacker motivation is probably one of the more interesting questions concerning this sub-culture (Hacker-Bible, 1995). Hackers rarely use information to gain wealth. This is not considered socially acceptable. Carding (using stolen credit card numbers for profit) is poison to the underground, and doesnt make one a hacker, it makes one an idiot. They do, however, use it within their group to stratify themselves. Hackers with the most information gain the highest prestige within the community. They also gain a great deal of power from that information. Most people cannot cancel the phone service of those who upset them. To a truly proficient hacker, this is not a very difficult problem. Hacking involves the accumulation of knowledge, which is accompanied by the greater status and power. To almost all computer professionals the actions of hackers are despicable and justify all sorts of nasty punishments. I fully agree that hacking is a criminal offense and should be prosecuted. The only thing that bothers me from a moral standpoint is that these criminals are essentially the cyberspace equivalent of teenage vandals. They do not know the implications of what they are doing. These people are displaying situational morality, and their actions are random, yet predictable. Many professionals argue that the cause why hackers hack is about the same as any other criminal. It mostly has to do with their families, and friends and the environment they grew up in. I agree with professionals at this point and I believe that the issue goes back to how they are raised. I am not saying that these people have bad parents. I think that while parents go around telling their children not to do drugs, to study hard in school, etc., they do not tell their children that it is bad to break into computer systems. Parents dont think of discussing it. This leaves teenagers to learn the morals of computer hacking on the streets, and in this case, cyberspace. They learn about hacking on bulletin boards, chat lines, etc. Are there established experts in the field on these forums to discuss the moral issues of hacking? Clearly not, they dont have the time or desire to associate with these people. The hackers therefore learn their morals from other hackers. .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .postImageUrl , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:hover , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:visited , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:active { border:0!important; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:active , .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5 .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uba0b5052810b64933c8d61888138bee5:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Insomnia Analysis EssayThe hacker morality has been developed over the years to be self-serving in justifying their actions. Newcomers to the community learn the morality by associating with established hackers. There is a desire to impress each other, and there is a fear about their heroes, such as the Legion of Doom and the Masters of Deception. Are their heroes criminals? Not to the hackers. They are political prisoners for knowing too much, or at least that is what everyone is telling them. There are no established security experts visible to the general population to let the hackers know the actual damage that these people created or the real criminal actions that the y committed. Hackers also do not know about the costs associated with their actions. All studies indicate that hackers are generally young, and do not have full-time jobs or own property (Hacker-Bible, 1995). They do not consider that if they do get into a system and make an unintentional, simple mistake, they could cost the company thousands, and possibly millions, of dollars. I would dare say that every computer professional, including the best, have made a mistake that has caused the loss of data, service or money. Hackers have never been in a real situation to understand this issue (CERT, 2000). They do not know what a System Administrator is faced with on a day-to-day basis, and neither do they realize the extent of the problem they cause for already overworked people. They also do not comprehend that a company detecting an intrusion must investigate to see the extent of it. This has a cost of thousands of dollars associated with it (CERT, 2000). Hacker morality says investigating intrusions is a cost of doing business, and it is the companys fault for having poor security. Hackers, as individuals, have never had to balance limited resources themselves, and cannot empathize with others. There is also a more threatening aspect of hacker morality; there are many variations of it. Some hackers believe that it is all right to punish people and companies that they do not like, while others find the action wrong. Others believe that it is all right to steal money and resources, if it goes to support hacker actions. This is very dangerous. Even though many hackers might disagree with these types of actions, they will not rip off others, which is considered the most degrading thing that a hacker could ever do. In my opinion, all of these attitudes come from the same source; a morality that is learned from other hackers, without role models from the legitimate information security community. While it is wrong to stereotype hackers as evil people with malicious criminal intentions, they cannot be stereotyped as compassionate freedom fighters as the hackers like to see themselves. Hackers must also realize that the actions of criminals will always reflect poorly on the hacker community as a whole, until the hacker community tries to police itself, which will never happen. Their actions are by definition, criminal. They can suffer consequences, which include being criminally prosecuted and hated by the information security community. The information security profession must also be more visible in a way that gets children, before the hacker community gets them. Hacking can be very exciting for a teenager who can be considered a hero by others. Somehow the profession must get together to teach parents and schools that they must teach their children about hacking, before somebody else does. Apple Inc Customer Satisfaction Melbourne

Question: Discuss about the Apple Inc Customer Satisfaction Melbourne. Answer: Introduction: Apple Inc is one of the most noted and reputed software companies of the world. It is considered to be one of the biggest manufacturers of ace software products. It is one of the most prestigious global brands which is given a lot of importance to the aspect of customer satisfaction. This is more than evident from the kind of operations which is ongoing in the Melbourne retail store of Apple Inc. In fact it can be said that it is due to this niche attention that has been provided to the said aspect leading to the growth and the development of the company. This is the very fact that has helped the brand to attain such a lot of success and prestige on a global basis and the brand of Apple Inc happens to be one of the most prestigious brands of the world(apple3, 2016). In the current discussion we will be analysing the existing literature on the said concern that shall highlight the fact that Apple Inc has always given a lot of importance to the aspect of customer satisfaction, a trend that will be evident from the operations of the retail store of the brand in Melbourne Review: According to Joe Rossignol (2016), Apple Inc, is a brand that has a global repute. It is considered to be at par with the other brands such as Samsung, Lenovo etc. In the past years it has been seen that the brand did have a great index or statistics of customer satisfaction. Apple Inc. has been in the rat race with the other reputed brands that have been mentioned. However the reports and the survey calculations of the year 2016 have proven the fact that the management of the company have been giving a greater importance to the perspective of customer satisfaction. As a result of the same it has been seen that the brand has attained a much higher customer satisfaction as compared to Samsung and some of the other renowned worldwide brands. This is a direct indication of the fact that the company gives a huge importance to the aspect of customer satisfaction(Rossignol, 2016). According to Ben Lovejoy (2016), the trends here the management of the company has revealed the trend that the research and development activities and plans of the company are often based on the customer feedback that are received from the retail outlets of the company,. This is something that can be correlated with the information that has been attained from various Apple Inc retail outlets all across the world. One of them also happens to be the Apple retail outlet in Melbourne (Lovejoy, 2016). According to Jim Woods (2007), it seems that there is a very diligent process through which the customer feedback is taken on the various Apple Inc devices and softwares that they have been using. In the same feedback suggestions are asked for from the customers that could be taken up by the company for bringing an improvement in the services and the products of the company. This is a very direct and a clear indication of the fact that the element of customer satisfaction happens to be very important for the company. In this context it can also be said that this is the basic dint on which the developmental and the growth strategies of the brand are drawn and developed. It will be quite exact to say that since this is the guiding philosophy of the company it has been able attain its current position(Woods, 2007). According to Katherine Johnson, Yang Li, Hang Phan, Jason Singer and Hoang Trinh (2012), the Melbourne Apple outlet has followed the theory and the strategy of the company management as per which the company happens to be collecting the feedback from the customers so that their products and services can be improved. In this context we see that the retail outlet has developed a special form that is given out to each of the customers. This form happens to be mandatory for those customers who have made a purchase of any item from the company. In this case we see that this is a practise that gives a great deal of importance to the aspect of the opinions and the ideas of the customers. The customers are asked about the features and the benefits of the Apple Inc products. This provides the management of the company with a great information gamut that gives the idea about the way their products are being accepted in the market. This entire project is a conscious effort on the part of the ma nagement of the company(Johnson et al., 2012). According to Killian Bell (2016), it clearly indicates at the theories and the vision of the company that the customers happen to be the important elements. It is on the dint of the customers and their feedbacks and their reactions for the products of the company that clearly allows the company to enjoy their dominant position in the global market. Hence the aspect of the customer satisfaction and their opinion about the products of the company happens to be so very important for the management. This is the philosophy that is given out to all the retail stores that are opened across the world. The same can also be seen in the functional pattern of the Melbourne retail outlets of the brand. In this case it is clear that all the developmental projects of the company are done with the customers and their satisfaction kept in mind. This helps the company to attain a continued success in the market(Bell, 2016). As per the Changewave (2007), it can be said that the management of the company has taken the whole aspect to a different level as well. In the recent times the management of the company is no longer happy and content with the aspect of customer satisfaction. In fact it is just no longer enough to satisfy the customers. What matters the most is customer delight. The new motto of the management of the company is to delight the customers of the brand that can bring greater success to the brand on a global basis. In this context it can be said that the brand is looking ahead to make the customers of the brand really delighted and awed by the products and the services of the company. This is one of the main reasons why the brand is looking to make new breakthroughs in the field. This is a fact that shall help the company to attar and allure the customers in the best possible manner. In this context it has been seen that the management of the company has been designing new strategies as p er which they are trying to provide their customers something new every time they come to the retail outlets of the brand of Apple. Hence it is not just the quality of the product and the features that they are offering, but the other aspects are also being looked into. The entire experience of visiting the retail outlet has to be special one. Hence new offers and schemes are being drawn and new strategies are being made that can attract the customers better(Changewave, 2007). According to Micah Solomon (2016), the managements and the marketing team of the company happen to be in a loop with the retail outlets of the company. In this loop we see that the company is asking the real brand to be very sure of the kind offers and the services that they are providing. Each of the customers has to receive a personalized attention and again they must be attended with care and respect(Solomon, 2016). According to Tom Krazit (2008), the aspect of quality is very important for the management of the company, Apple as a company has always been keen to provide the most competent quality to their customers. This ensures that the customers get the value of the money they happen to be spending on the products and the services of the company. This is very important for the success of the company. In fact this is one of the aspects that have helped the company to attain success in the company. This is something that can be easily seen in the operations of the retail store Melbourne. In this context we see that the brand has never compromised on the aspect of the quality and hence can be associated with trust. In fact one can say that the elements of trust and that of customer satisfaction happen to be two sides of the am coin. This theory is taken to be the final truth for the operations of the brand if Apple(Krazit, 2008). Comparative Analysis of authors idea and arguments: All the authors that have been discussed in the above part of the discussion deal with the world of fast changing technology and its various components. The opinions from the authors have clearly indicated at the fact that customer satisfaction, or further still customer delight is an aspect that drives the business strategy of Apple Inc. However the concern of customer delight has been discussed from various aspects. On certain situations it has been discussed as the moving principle of the business tactics. Again in other cases it has been decided to be the guiding principle that leads the research and developmental endeavours of the company. Again according to M. Solomon customer satisfaction serves as an index that can help the marketing department to design more aggressive campaigns. The same has been mentioned or opined by Change wave where we see that the strategy of attaining customer delight is being served the maximum attention. Again it indicates at the business strategy o f the company. Quintessentially it can be said that all the authors unanimously agree to the fact that the aspect of customer satisfaction is the best index that can relate to the aspect of the acceptability of the brand in the market. Again it shall indicate at the changes that should come in the company for betterment in the future. This is something that will help the company to penetrate better into the market and attract a better gamut of customer in the future. The authors have dealt with the aspect of customer satisfaction and its importance in apple from different levels. The major deciding point will be the chosen retail shop in Melbourne. The opinions and the literature also suggest that Apple is working in a closed circuit where the main management is in a close liaison with the rest of the retail outlets. It indicates at the business plans and designs of the company. It shows and reflects the centralized control within the company that is driving the entire organization and all its stakeholders towards one direction attainment of maximum customer delight. Conclusion: On a final note it can be said that the analysis of the literature that is present on the current topic clearly indicates at the fact that the company of Apple Inc gives a good amount of importance to the aspect of customer satisfaction. This is clearly stated from the way its various retail outlets are operating across the world. The example of the retail outlet of Apple in Melbourne tells us that the brand gives a lot of importance to customer satisfaction. In fact we see that the company is increasingly aiming to attain customer delight. This is highly important since on the basis of the same company happens to be planning its development in the future years. All the projects of development and growth that is happening in the company are done from the perspective of how the same would be received by the customers. End of the day it will not be too wrong to assume that the companys all new projects depend on the way they are being received by the customers in the final market. References: apple3, 2016. Humorous Essay Topics That Are Easy to Write About

Humorous Essay Topics That Are Easy to Write AboutHumorous essay topics can be fun and easy to write. But what are some funny topics to use? Here are a few that you may want to consider. One of the most common topics to write about is the genre of movies. Why? Because movies have been one of the most reliable genres to begin writing about. Movies tend to end up being very broad and deep, so they can be really good topics to start out with. That being said, you may find that these movie topics are not as easy to write about as other topics, which is why it is suggested that you start with something as easy as a movie and work your way from there.Another topic that tends to interest people is sports. Especially basketball and football. It is not hard to think of ways to bring humor to the topic. One way to go about this is to take an ordinary event and turn it into something outrageous. If it is a college basketball game that you are discussing, then perhaps talk about what happens in t he middle of the game when all the players are trying to get back in the game.Another way to make the topic seem more interesting is to add humor to the concept itself. This means that if you are talking about a situation where two people were cooking and one person is just tossing something away and the other person just keeps picking it up and throwing it away, there is a good chance that the humor will come when the item gets thrown away by the one who was picking it up. Also, another good place to think about is to keep things simple. Keep it short and simple. If you want to talk about how an employee is doing his job or how he was suspended from the job, then do so.Humorous essay topics may also include topics that involve humor as well. You should really focus on the topic when writing these essays. Some examples are written about things that everyone would be able to relate to, such as the sitcoms and films that people have been watching in recent years, as well as real life situations that are hilarious. Another thing that people could relate to is to talk about different kinds of comedians. One of the most strange topics that you could write about would be something that is 'Bizarro.' Something that are completely absurd and not just absurd in the sense that it is silly, but bizarre in that it is totally out of the ordinary. For example, someone might be making a film that stars a dead person. That would be Bizarro because the film wouldn't really be that bad. Also, another interesting way to use humor in an essay would be to find a topic that is related to a funny situation that you have experienced in your life. This can be done by going to a website or looking for some videos online. Perhaps you will be having trouble getting out of bed because of a horrible nightmare that you had.Writing with humor has many advantages. The best way to make it work for you is to think about the kind of topics that you like to write about and then to make them into a funny topic. The more you get into writing, the more of an 'edge' you will get on the subject.

IT Industry Essays - Telecommunications Companies, Telephony

IT Industry There are many changes that occurred in the industrial organization of interexchange telecommunication services in the United States during the 1985-1995 period. Let's look at the general idea of Telecommunications. It is the two-way exchange of info in the form of voice or data messages between tow users at distinct geographic locations" (5, 7). The two-way exchange is now a numerous way exchange through the use of computers and the Internet. There are four important areas of the telecommunication industry in the United States. Technology plays a major role in telecommunications. Before technology, there was no such thing as telecommunications. During the ten year period there are some key advances in telecommunications due to technology. With growing technology, more companies want a piece of the action. There is a significant increase in long distance carriers and an increase in the size of these carriers. There is also a large influx in pricing and competition during this period. Another key factor in the success of the telecommunication industry is the regulations established for individual carriers and the industry as a whole. With the increasing size of the industry and the major technological advances, stricter regulations must be present to keep the structure of the industry. Lastly, there are some differences between local and long distance carriers that must be looked at to fully understand the industry. There is also a fifth major aspect that defines Telecommunications, that is the American Telephone &Telegraph Company (AT&T) and the history behind it. Technology is a key aspect in the growth of telecommunications. If one had to point to the single most important reason for the new competition in local telephone markets. It is the advance of technology. Digitalization has reduced barriers between voice telephone, data, and media services (9, 29). Microprocessors are the principal component of digital switches. So as their performance increases and their price falls, switching costs fall and scale and scope economies increase (9, 13). Scope economies mean that a few companies produce many services. The adoption of digital technology in all aspects of the network has improved performance and lowered costs. Digital transmission, whether over copper of fiber cables or over the airwaves, is cleaner and more secure due to more durable cables(9, 16). Technological advances such as fiber optics and wireless transmission have paved the way for competition in the local exchange. But, new technology alone could not bring competition to the local exchange (9, 10). It takes innovations in communications technology and new service offerings pressure both suppliers and industry regulators to change (9, 2). In 1984, there was a large growth in the size of the industry and of its respective business. Teleport offered competitive local business services in New York City (9, 9). Competition is met with aggressive responses, including price cuts and improved service offerings. The new competitiveness effected rates and offerings of local exchange carriers in years to come. In particular, the integration of local, long distance, cellular and cable services establishes the groundwork for offering innovative service packages at Bundled Rates (9, 11). Two factors are most important for the relative advantages of the various new competitors: The incremental costs of building local telephone networks and the pre-existing goodwill with potential subscribers (9, 37). There were gains and mistakes made by several competitive firms during this period. Instead of divesting itself, Ameritech proposed to interconnect with competitors and unbundled its network services selling services at nondiscriminatory cost-based rates (9, 11). They were trying to be competitive in a world of monopoly. In 1994, MCI decided on a strategy to build its own local networks in selected cities for selected customers. Problems struck when they could not reach households. It proved to be very expensive and MCI quietly scaled back its plans. MCI then decided to grow internally by creating its MCImetro division (9, 11). These firms were trying different approaches to compete with AT&T after the divesture. The cost wars during the period also had an affect on companies entering the market. Since average costs are everywhere declining, strong scale economies prevail. Scope economies occur when a single firm can provide an entire array of services more cheaply than a collection of firms who specialize in just a few of those services. Scope economies stem from the joint use of facilities by several services without substantial congestion problems. Costs of local exchange service is "sub additive" which requires the cost of a given level of local services when supplied by a single firm is less than when parceled out to two or more firms. How to Write a Query Letter in 7 Steps

How to Write a Query Letter in 7 Steps How to Write a Query Letter in 7 Steps A starving writer stands in front of a mailbox, clutching a hefty brown envelope addressed to a publishing company. They say a prayer, push their manuscript in, and begin the long wait for a reply that could make or break their career. It's a romantic image, but most major publishers don't actually accept "unsolicited manuscripts" these days. If that writer were serious about being published, they’d first seek out an agent. And for that, they'd need a query letter. Ready to get an agent? Here's how to write a query letter in 7 steps With the help of our brand-new infographic, this post will show you how to write a query letter that gets results. Note: a lot of research needs to happen before you start querying agents. This article will focus on the query letter itself, and specifically, queries for fiction. You can learn about queries for non-fiction submissions in this post  and how to write a non-fiction book proposal right here. Writing an Effective Query Letter  A query letter is a note asking an agent if they’re interested in representing a book. Agents may receive a dozen or more queries a day - and might only sign four or five authors per year. So you can see how making a good first impression in your query is crucial. Now, there's no "standard" format that all authors use for their letters. However, a query is a business document and as such should look like a formal one-page business letter. Our one universal piece of advice about querying is to keep the letter short. Think 300 to 400 words at the very most. Many agents field queries using their phones, so think about how will your letter look on a small screen. Does it give the impression of being a huge wall of text, or a disjointed series of singles sentences? If so, revise to make it more concise, orderly, and organized. Without further ado, here’s how to write a query letter in 7 steps.Step 1: Capture the agent’s attention with your greetingâ€Å"Dear Ms. Tyler† That’s perfectly fine, assuming that the agent’s name is Tyler and she is, indeed, a woman. The following line should then make the agent prick up their ears. If you’ve published before, why not start with that? Also make sure to mention any critical recognition or awards you've received for your previous work.I’m seeking representation for my novel, The Bedlam Stacks.  This novel is the follow-up to The Watchmaker of Filigree Street, which was shortlisted for the Betty Trask Prize, and a finalist for the Locust First Novel Prize in 2016.If you haven’t published before, another great way to start is with a personal connection. We met at last year’s Writer’s Digest Annual Conference and chatted briefly about your work with up-and-coming romance authors.Or, better yet, get a referral from an established author or a publishing insider.Jane Doe at Del Rey Books suggested that I contact you regarding representation for my debut science fiction novel, Arbormancer.Networking is crucial in publishing. â€Å"You want something that will bring the submission directly to the agent rather than an assistant or an intern,† says editor and former agent Fran Lebowitz. â€Å"Showing that you are connected never hurts.† If you have no connections to speak of, don’t panic; just jump straight into your pitch.I’m writing to seek representation for my 92,500-word debut thriller, Operation Kill. The title, genre, and word count: three key pieces of information are right there in your first sentence. With that out of the way, let’s really grab their attention!Tip: Always mention your genre, word count and target audience in your query.Step 2: Craft an irresistible hook"Sell the book, don’t apologize for it, and know how to condense its true meaning to a couple of sentences.†Ã‚   - Jonny Geller, CEO of Curtis Brown (John le Carrà ©, David Mitchell, Susanna Clarke)Within the first few pages of a novel, you need to make it impossible for readers to put your book down. In a query letter, you have to make do with just a few lines. This part of the letter is known as the hook. Your hook should show agents how your book is different from the thousands of others in your genre. It could be an awesome concept that makes the reader wonder why someone hasn’t thought of it before. Just look at the hook for Jeff Lindsay’s Darkly Dreaming Dexter:Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likable: he only kills bad people.Another great hook might involve an intriguing central conflict, like the one in Stepheni e Meyers’ Twilight:About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him - and I didn’t know how potent that part might be -   that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.Not only does this introduce the genre and tone (dark paranormal romance), it sets up the narrator’s dilemma: she knows she’s in love with a man who might kill her. What will happen next? Is she walking into a trap? Will her love conquer the vampire’s bloodlust? Perfecting your hook might take days - but it’s the most important part of your pitch, hands down.
